BRUNEI SULTAN 62nd BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

It’s hard to forget His Majesty’s 61st Birthday Celebration in Kuala Belait last year and an even more unforgettable celebration at the 60th Birthday in Tutong when Hong Kong actor Eric Tsang visited. Both events were blessed with an abundance of festivity and vibrance! It is the event of the year where the congregation of photographers appear to have grown quite significantly from year to year. Also  evident is the prolific choice of equipment seen at such events where the latest and greatest Canon and Nikon DSLR continue to dominate the scene. I have neither the latest nor the greatest equipment at my disposal just my tried and trusty companion: the EOS 5D and 20D. In the 2007 gallery there’s a mix of ultrawide and telephoto images. This year, in favour of travelling light, I chose the 5D/100-400 in Tutong and 20D/100-400 in Kuala Belait.

At time of this posting, His Majesty has visited all but one of Brunei’s four districts, Temburong, the gateway to Brunei’s pristine tropical rainforests and the Ulu Ulu Resort. As far as I know, the only relatively unobstructed grandstand in all four districts is the Kuala Belait one which explains the ease of capturing His Majesty’s appreciative moments.

  1. Ahim,

OK let’s pencil that down for 2009 although a glass of Iced Lemon Tea would be more forthcoming than coffee given the circumstances!

Last year, you took a picture of me in the crowd of spectators. This year the baton is pass to Caroline in welcoming her to her first media event! Next year she can pass the baton to someone of her choice (it cannot be either one of us). Visit her blog for more pictures of the event.

  5. Looking into his face, make me feel like looking at something untouchable, unidentitified unreaveled thing.

I wonder/eager to now, who was his advisor…
