AN UNSUCCESSFUL HORNBILL MORNING

In one of a number of unsuccessful hornbill mornings, their penetrating cries could be heard everywhere from inside the house yet I looked in the usual vantage points around the balcony and found none. There is however no shortage of birds that pay homage to this neighbourhood and just as I was about to head inside, I thought the antenna that stands high above the roof could be worth a look. Not an easy thing as it involves jutting out the body somewhat and then at my age requiring a little gymnastic bending in order to take a peep. A gymnast doesn’t have to hold several kilos of weight while this one tried rather awkwardly to hold the 100-400mm for this shot. The birds, being naturally alert, were busy looking every which way but down. I thought this picture made for an interesting perspective save for the shadow of the roof on the lower left corner.
