Bruneian Artists Exhibit Works of Art at The Empire Hotel & Country Club

Sometimes timing is everything. Had it not been for the short Radisson Hotel shoot yesterday I would not have discovered their delicious Caesar salad and if I hadn’t been in the Brunei capital, I certainly wouldn’t have stopped over at art exhibit at The Empire Hotel and Country Club (many thanks to Sumantri for the heads-up). I had the pleasure of talking to local artist Haji Padzil Hj Ahmad who’s curating the exhibit when I arrived. This exhibition runs from 20 – 26 February. This exhibit is planned for the Oil & Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) sometime in March and perhaps also the Panaga Club (subject to confirmation).

The 3 O'clock sun casts some interesting shadows on the pillars and painted marble floor lending themselves nicely to the overall ambiance (some may simply mistaken this for a hot day and stay in the shade).
A portrait of His Majesty The Sultan of Brunei among a number of art pieces being exhibited.

An oil painting of Istana Nurul Iman by Haji Padzil that took some 4 to 6 months to complete.

This sketch pen drawing measuring 23 x 17 cm is entitled Kampong Masjid Lama in Muara that is no longer in existence — in its place now is a port, according to Hj Padzil. I like it so much I bought it for my studio.
