MALAY CUISINE FOR LUNCH AT ROS RESTORAN IN PENANG

It almost seems paradoxical that, despite being in Malaysia, there aren’t many dedicated Malay restaurants in town where one can enjoy authentic flavours of the archipelago in a comfortable environment. Ros Restoran Malay Cuisine, situated at the junction of Kelawei Road and Cantonment Road, is one of the few that fits the bill, and is ideal for those seeking something a little more refined than the average stall. A little over a year old now, it occupies an entire bungalow plot with ample parking space for customers, with a vastly experienced chef cooking up quite an array of delicious offerings that should remind one of olden days. — Malay Fare With A Class Of Class | The Star

Fish head lovers should not miss the Kari Kepala Ikan Penang Best (fish head curry), one of their most popular items. Served in a cauldron, it remains piping hot when it reaches the table. Even after devouring the meat, the spicy gravy is great to be mopped up with fluffy white rice. Don’t be surprised if you break a sweat — always a sign you’re enjoying the dish.

  1. Looks like a very posh Malay restaurant. I noticed the otak-otak looks almost cake-like. My mom makes it by marinating a fillet of fish with a belacan-like paste. She then wraps it in a banana leaf and we grill it in charcoal fire. It is very yummy. Other variations include mashing the fillet with the marinade. Hmmm I think I shall request that for tonight’s BBQ.
