COMMUNAL BREAKFAST AT COCOTTE IN LITTLE INDIA

COCOTTE ~ a small casserole in which individual portions of food can be cooked and served.

Having French at Little India might sound like a dodgy idea, but not if it’s at Cocotte. If you’ve found Wanderlust, you won’t miss Cocotte (pronounced koh-kote). This intimate restaurant uses Le Creuset cookware to present some of their tasty traditional French fare (and perhaps up the ante on French authenticity). But fear not, the fare presented to us was hearty, honest and as colourful as the pots they were served in. — Luann Alphonso | August Man, Sept 2010

Cocotte is located on the ground level of Wanderlust, the latest boutique hotel by lawyer-turned-purveyor of Singapore’s hippest hotels, Loh Lik Peng. Cocotte builds upon communal dining and takes comfort that food is best shared among friends.

At the centre of Cocotte is a massive round dining table which can seat ten, lit by a spider-like MOOOI chandelier. The idea of creating such a large contrast between lobby and restaurant belongs to Chris Lee of Asylum who installed restored timber flooring with old wine crates stacked against walls.

“Cocotte’s all-Singaporean kitchen serves up some of the best French country cuisine on the island.” according to a review by TODAY, Wednesday Aug 18, 2010

A hotel guest I shared the breakfast morning with on the morning I was due to check out.

“Cocotte’s cuisine takes inspiration from the concept of sharing and communal dining that is a perfect marriage to the recipes and experience that is the French countryside. The menu is about simple, hearty French cuisine that focuses on good ingredients, flavour and technique.” — Cocotte

I love these French pastry especially the ones in centre basket that just melts in your mouth which according to Melo is Bavarian filling. A review I came across says, “Enjoying warm bread rolls dipped in apple cider cream sauce is an unforgettable treat at Boutique Wanderlust Hotel.”

I like how the view stretches all the way out from the restaurant to the bar to to the lobby of the hotel.

I had Western style breakfast for two mornings at Wanderlust and had varied my preference of eggs from poached on the first day to sunny side up the next day.

I know very little about cutlery but I noticed the ones used here are the larger and heavier variety you don’t often usually find at other country-style diners.
The bar that’s just a shout away from the hotel reception and right next to the waiting lounge of the hotel. A female guest chats with the bartender as he prepares her drink.
