THE WORLD’S ONLY DORAEMON PARK IN TAIWAN

Doraemon (ドラえもん?) is a Japanese manga series created by Fujiko F. Fujio (the pen name of Hiroshi Fujimoto) which later became an anime series and an Asian franchise. The series is about an earless robotic cat named Doraemon, who travels back in time from the 22nd century to aid a schoolboy, Nobita Nobi (野比 のび太, Nobi Nobita?). The name “Doraemon” translates roughly to “stray”. “Dora” is from “dora neko” (brazen cat ,stray cat, どら猫), and is a corruption of nora (stray). “Emon” is a component of male given names, such as Goemon, though no longer as popular as in the past. “Dora” is not from dora meaning gong, but due to the homophony, the series puns on this, with Doraemon loving dorayaki (Japanese confection which consists of two small pancake-like patties made from castella wrapped around a filling of sweet red bean paste) — Wikipedia

While holidaying in Taiwan a year ago today (Feb 15, 2010), one of a number of attractions was the Window on China Theme Park (WOC), the second largest miniature theme park in the world located in Taoyuan Country. Fans of Doraemon would be delighted to know there’s a world’s only Doraemon Park dedicated Park Fans of Doraemon may be thrilled to know there’s a world’s only Doraemon Park. Here are some photos of the life size setup I know you’d love to see in person some day! Check out my Facebook album photos for an idea of their size in relation to my wife and I.

  1. I am a big fan of Ding Dong too!!! We didn’t have enough time to visit this theme park in July last year but have heard a lot of good comments about it. Your photos are excellent and good enough for them to use as official promotion 🙂

    1. According to internet sources, the closure was due to contract issues between Window On China (WOC) and Japan. Quite unfortunately as Doraemon has a huge following in Asia.
