Continuing from Indulge Till You Fly post is the last leg of day-long programme where a total of 119 participants from 19 countries regrouped at the Sunway Pyramid Shopping Complex. After a vertically challenging experience on the KLIA DCA Tower, it’s time participants took the much awaited Shopping Mall Race where the group with the highest number of correct answers to shopping clues win. My heart was pumping with excitement as adrenalin took the place of fatigue from a busy morning schedule. This is the closest experience I ever got to an Amazing Race Asia adventure only bigger in the context of country participation and it was awesome, to say the least! The Mega Fam participants included travel agents, journalists, and crews from Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Nepal, Russia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and Yemen.
Of the most universal of tourist leisure activity when in Malaysia, is shopping. And there are many reasons to shop in Malaysia—from the world class malls, swanky high-end boutiques and street bazaars to the wide range of duty free items, local handicrafts and designer products. The relatively attractive exchange rates also make for value-for-money spending for an entire spectrum of consumers. Malaysia enjoys three ‘mega’ sale events every year which are the Malaysia GP Sale, Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival and Malaysia Year-End Sale organised annually by the Ministry of Tourism and Tourism Malaysia. — Dato Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen
Visitors are in for a unique shopping adventure, all thanks to more than 800 specialty outlets. For some entertainment and fun, the mall houses the 48-lane Sunway Mega Lanes, which is also the venue and host to many international world class tournaments such as the 1998 Commonwealth Games, the Malaysian International Open Bowling Championships as well as the CGU Asian Bowling Tours organised by ESPN. There is also Sunway Pyramid Ice, which is Malaysia’s largest indoor ice-skating rink, and host to the prestigious Skate Asia 2008, World Ice Hockey 5’s tournaments and Skate Malaysia competitions.
Once your shopping is done, Sunway Pyramid is an amazing place to eat. From intimate cafes serving snacks and pastries to casual dining restaurants, you will find a feast of culinary delights, both authentically Malaysian and from all around the globe. Take your pick at Bread Story, Secret Recipe or Auntie Anne’s Pretzels for some light healthy treats. For the really hungry, drop by Tokyo G, Ichiban Ramen, Laksa Shack or Pizza Pappa John. For gourmet connoisseurs, there’s Tony Roma’s, Dragon-i Restaurant, Canton-i and of course fast food joints such as Mc Donalds, KFC, A&W, Kenny Roger’s Roasters to name a few are strategically located around the mall for your convenience.
