OUR OWN BACKYARD

Like many, I like travelling and I’ve been fortunate to have visited many countries and experienced the various cultural diversity each of these countries has to offer–USA, Japan, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Vietnam. People travel for various reasons–further education, vacation, romance, enlightenment, inspiration–whatever they may be, we have an innate need to travel to far distant lands in search of answers only to find the answer right in our own backyard! A quote from George Moore sums this up …

A man travels the world over in search of what he needs, and returns home to find it.

My kids are 9 and 7 and we’re brought them to Singapore and earlier this year to Japan because like many kids of this generation, Jamie and Jewel exhibit an enormous propensity to remember their younger years unlike my time, I can hardly remember my childhood. After all the big city experience, we bring them back to earth with a touch of nature in the unruined forest of Sungai Liang.

I was torn between posting this here or over at my other blog SHIMworld Living but seeing that this is my designated KNK channel–KNK stands for Kenali Negara Kitani in the Malay language and is an ongoing campaign backed by Brunei Tourism Board whose objective is to create greater domestic awareness on tourism attractions and activities found in the country.

Now, this one is quite literally in my own backyard. This photo like a number of my published sunrise pictures was captured from my kitchen balcony that overlooks parts of the untouched forest.

On my way out from a shoot at the Lumut-Liang Recreation Club multipurpose hall, I stopped at the bridge that joins the residents to the beach to capture this breathtaking view–the mirror reflection of the trees and blue sky, the distant coconut trees and sheds combined with boats owned by local fishermen defines the Brunei tropical landscape.
