1 MORE 1 NESCAFE GOLD

If there’s something stronger than Gold, it is Black Gold! I bought this when I was in Singapore and because Black Gold isn’t available in Brunei, I kept the (almost) empty bottle save for half a tea spoon of the dark side left inside. On the label is “DEEP & DARK” and they’re not kidding—just as you remove the cap, the aroma hits you hard. It’s for that reason I kept the bottle within reach, for times when I a whiff is all I needed.

There is coffee and there is Nescafe coffee. And there’s Nescafe Gold coffee. What is it about coffee that distinguishes one from another and what is it about them that gets us so hooked that we do not mind that bit of aromatic history repeating itself over and over? Coffee has existed far longer than anyone remembered and one brand that has existed since 1938 when it was introduced in Switzerland on April 1st.

The rich taste of your favourite coffee is reflected in its rich history. The beginnings of NESCAFÉ can be traced all the way back to 1930, when the Brazilian government first approached Nestlé. Our coffee guru, Max Morgenthaler, and his team set out to find a way of producing a quality cup of coffee that could be made simply by adding water, yet would retain the coffee’s natural flavour. After seven long years of research in our Swiss laboratories, they found the answer. Nescafe

Combining Nestle and cafe, the product name NESCAFE was introduced. Today, store shelves full of flavours to cater for coffee lovers of all ages and tastes. I cannot recall when I had my first taste of Nescafe Gold but I’ve been hooked on the Gold label (Made in Germany) for the longest time. My mornings begin with a cup of hot brew with two tea spoonfuls, brown sugar and either coffee mate or fresh milk. Regardless of my schedule, I always have to have a cup before I hit the road.

This photograph was taken this morning exclusively for this post from a wisp of inspiration. I know people who absolutely do not drink coffee but instead they get their fix from tea or some other beverage. In all seriousnes, and perhaps in some twisted way, coffee has become a reason I want to get up in the mornings and Nescafe outlines the health benefits associated with this habit.

  1. Hmm Nescafe make a good coffee but the poor guy harvesting it in Africa gets 50c a day.

    Great photo though 😉

To quote ALRI on caffeine “Caffeine is an interesting and well know compound, certainly nothing new to the supplement industry. But there is some valuable research that shows a lot of potential benefits. Yes, everyone already knows that it is noted as a compound that increases energy significantly.

In one rat study and several human studies, caffeine has show to have appetite suppressive value. Naturally most dieters cheat and can use all the will power they can get.

Another study has shown caffeine to decrease fat redeposit and aid thermogenesis through fat oxidation. In part this appears to result in suppressed leptin (you know, the fat regulating hormone)”

  2. Jiggles,

I’ve found the standard red capped Nescafe to lack the aroma that the Gold ones do. While I love my coffee, I cannot say I’m enough to be a connoisseur although I think there’s quite a price difference between the two.

  3. Wonderful photo! Personally I prefer other blends than Gold, but this photo makes me want to run to the nearest store, run back home, run into the kitchen and put the water heater on…slurp!

  4. I believe Nescafe Gold Blend is Decaffeinated. Some people swear that there’s no discernible difference in taste between caffeinated and decaffeinated ones and since I’ve never tried the decaf variety I cannot say for sure. All I (can) say is that I’ve gotten so used to Nescafe Gold that I cannot enjoy other brands/blends especially the standard hotel room variety!

I’ll have to get someone to bring a bottle of THE DARK SIDE back from Singapore someday!
