On the morning of the official opening of the much anticipated London Olympics 2012, many of us in Brunei (GMT+8) had our alarms set to wake up at 4AM to catch the live coverage of the opening. More importantly, I (along with my wife, and two kids who in the next 2 hours would be getting ready for school) was eager to see the Sultanate’s best athletes march proud among the most powerful athletes from around the world. It was soon time for school following by weekly shopping at the Seria tamu. Instead of our usual breakfast at Nam Wah morning, we decided we would try Soi Heng for a change.

As soon as I walked in, majority of patrons had eyes locked on the large TV screen to catch the live broadcast of the Olympics — moments leading up to the lighting of the Olympic Flame. Sensing the heightened ambiance, I instinctively got up, took out the Samsung Galaxy S III and took a couple of pictures to share on Facebook. No sooner had the photo appear online that Sin Chew Daily reporter called requesting a copy (bottom right) to supplement their front page story. I have had photos from my Canon PowerShot G11 published in 3 major newspapers — photo from the S III a first.
