Usain Bolt Leaves Behind a Legion of Highly Inspired Athletes

Conventional wisdom says  lighting never strikes the same place twice. At the London Olympics 2012 100m, 200m including 4 x 100m athletics events, USAIN BOLT not only left left his opponents in the dust, he also made history and broke the mould of such wisdom leaving behind a legion of highly inspired athletes around the world. One of such inspired athletes is none other than my daughter Jewel who in recent years developed a passion for competitive running who is also fortunately to train in the company of more seasoned runners in the district. As parents we support her weekly endeavours as long she continues to fulfil her educational and academic pursuits.

As soon as my daughter went to bed I made this surprise photo montage of Usain Bolt’s finest moments as a source of inspiration and motivation for her training.

Huge congratulations to Usain Bolt for his personal and team Jamaica’s incredible achievements!

Photo Captured Using Samsung Galaxy S III Published on Front Page of Sin Chew Daily

On the morning of the official opening of the much anticipated London Olympics 2012, many of us in Brunei (GMT+8) had our alarms set to wake up at 4AM to catch the live coverage of the opening. More importantly, I (along with my wife, and two kids who in the next 2 hours would be getting ready for school) was eager to see the Sultanate’s best athletes march proud among the most powerful athletes from around the world. It was soon time for school following by weekly shopping at the Seria tamu. Instead of our usual breakfast at Nam Wah morning, we decided we would try Soi Heng for a change.

As soon as I walked in, majority of patrons had eyes locked on the large TV screen to catch the live broadcast of the Olympics — moments leading up to the lighting of the Olympic Flame. Sensing the heightened ambiance, I instinctively got up, took out the Samsung Galaxy S III and took a couple of pictures to share on Facebook. No sooner had the photo appear online that Sin Chew Daily reporter called requesting a copy (bottom right) to supplement their front page story. I have had photos from my Canon PowerShot G11 published in 3 major newspapers — photo from the S III a first.

Toyota Classics 2011 Featuring Vasko and Pamela with Northeast German Philharmonic Orchestra

As official photographer to the Toyota Classics series in Brunei Darussalam since 2007, I began collecting the event posters from 2008 with autographs by the conductor, soprano, artists. What began a biennial event has turned into an annual affair for the last 4 consecutive years — yes, it’s that popular! This year Toyota Classics 2011 blends tradition with contemporary, meeting East and West with Pamela and Vasko in concert with the Northeast German Philharmonic Orchestra. I’m excited at the possibility (read on for details of ticket prices and availability).

Toyota Classics 2011 proudly opens its prestigious doors to present classical music with the unique touch of Pamela and Vasko. Aside from performing and recording all over the world as a piano and violin duo, these skilful artists are famed for innovative projects which bring classical music to the cutting edge of popular culture. Vasko, nicknamed ‘Super-Paganini’ by the press, is a former child prodigy himself, and the youngest ever Concertmaster of the Royal Opera House in London. The Northeast German Philharmonic Orchestra make a welcome return to Toyota Classics to perform exciting new arrangements with both exceptional talents. Under the talented conduction of Thomas Dorsch and performing Pamela’s cross-cultural creations that enchants generations, this fine orchestra delivers an enviable musical heritage, classics as you have never heard before.
