SUNGAI SERIA WETLANDS PANORAMA 2

Continuing from one end of the Sungai Seria wetlands to the far end, a fisherman throws a cast net (rambat) to widen his opportunity for a good catch after setting up the drift net (rantau). These are just some examples of popular inshore fishing methods that are widely used on the mud flats of Brunei. The drift net method which hangs in the water like a curtain is used to catch fish which swim near the surface. The cast net on the other hand is a small circular net with weights round the edge which the fisherman throws over the surface of water. The fisherman then pulls the net up by a rope and typically fish and prawns are trapped inside.
