EASI COME EASI “GO” 2

with 7 comments

On Oct 3 2007, I posted 5 images of mine that made their debut appearance on DST EASI pre-paid phone cards. Since then, I’ve been getting the occasional “I’ve got one of your Easi cards” reaction from people I know and don’t know. Such is the phenomenon of a small town I share with Nonnie whose blog Spiritual Garden is Winner of Best Personal Blog and runner-up of the Brunei Blog of the Year and also Journalist and Ghost Town Myth Buster Liza Mohd among other resident bloggers whom I’ve not yet bumped into.

Those of you who are ardent collectors of the pre-paid cards will be pleased to know three additional pictures including one of the DST Tower have been added to the list. I’ve also updated the original post that contains the 5 images. This hornbill has become somewhat of a celebrity having also appeared in various posts and also featured in a Brunei Times article including an Wikipedia entry.

While we’re on the subject of small town, the DST team is once again on the move and this time they’re heading to TEMBURONG, our forth district. It is also in Temburong where the ULU ULU RESORT is located though accessible only by long boats. There is presently no cellular coverage at the resort and I think plans to change that is in the pipeline. It’s one thing to go to a resort and have no distraction from phone calls but it’s quite another when you’re there to work and have no phone or internet access while there’s generator-powered electricity.

I picked up my GO! Modem from DST yesterday and I’ll be soon be hitting several hot spots in the Belait district for a quick usability assessment from my laptop as I’ve recently done so with my Nokia E51. Coverage here is said and widely believed to be weaker than our peers in the capital but let’s see what I find out. Stay tuned!

At the official launching of GO! broadband, I had not one but two goodie bags. Among the goodies were name card holders. One evening, Jewel wandered into the studio, saw the collection of EASI cards, picked them up in one swoop and organised them inside the metal namecard casing. Though I do not have that many cards inside, it looks as though the casing is good to hold about 15 pieces. Here you may actually see a glimpse of the “K.B. Sunset” EASI card tucked inside. Seria blogger Minna posted a comment with regards to the picture title. I guess some of us are more “petrol”otic than others! :)

It sure LOOK sunset than sunrise to me haha. I’m a Seria-ian! that’s so mean to publish our beautiful beautiful Seria beach as a KB one. Pft~

  1. Could you be any more biased towards DST? I hope your getting paid by DST for your pics for the EASI cards as well as your blog traffic.

How about a parallel review of BMobile’s service while you’re testing the DST modem?

    Cheers.

  2. Thanks for your reviews on Go!. I’m now a happy bunny ever since I went for it. Very soon, I’m gonna get an E51 too so that I can be constantly connected to Go!. Your blog is bad bad bad for my wallet ;p

Oh and my friends on that BMobile thingy is regretting their subscription, to quote a friend: “its lagging like an obese snail on sleeping pills” hehe…

Sure, what other products or services of DST would you like me to write about? :) The situation is quite simple—DST is my client as much as I am their client. I have been a DST Prima post-paid subscriber for 12 years and when DST made a purchase for a set of images to appear on EASI cards, the tables turned. Similarly, you may have noticed posts where I write about Excapade Sushi, Vintage Rose, Lexus, Pelangi De’Mutiara Tourist Square, to name a few, are clients for whom I’ve provided photography services.

I am of course biased but only by virtue of the products I own and the services and beliefs that I subscribe to. Anyone who visits this site enough will have also figured out that I use Nokia phones exclusively, shoot with Canon EOS cameras exclusively and an advocate of DELL computers for reasons that people may or may not care about.

I don’t see a real need to conduct any review/comparison in any depth as far as broadband services go. Brand preferences are a personal choice—some can afford to carry one of each, I know I can’t. I have friends who swear by BMobile for a myriad of reasons, I’m not certain. I have a family member who owns a BMobile phone but in my household but is outnumbered by the others who are Prima and EASI subscribers.

I’ve had readers in Singapore who jumped on the E51 bandwagon after reading my review. Nokia has outdone themselves with this model. If I use the phone for email and texting a lot I might even have to consider the Bluetooth keyboard but that would just complicate matters. Quite unneccessary.

Now, now, no unnecessary name calling although I’m somewhat a snail myself when it comes to adopting new technology. It so happened I got myself a HSDPA phone before the technology became a reality.

  4. Hi Jan, There’s no wrong for you to focus on your client as mentioned by ‘mobilemaniac’, I surf your blog to see all the masterpiece of photos that you took and learn from it. It’s good to see you have done successfully with your BIG clients.

I owned a E90, but it doesn’t perform well as the price stated. Should go with the E51 instead.

p.s. Are you going for the CANON SHOWCASE this 12th?

  5. I don’t know much if at all about other makes of Nokia phones. I don’t follow gadget trends and certainly am not a mobile phone-aholic. When I was shopping for a new phone, it came down to either the E51 or E90. with both phones said to have identical OS and feature sets, I chose the E51 for its form factor and cost—the E51 is surprisingly low cost compared to its bigger brother. Having said that, I wonder why you found the E90 to not perform well.

As for the Canon showcase, I should be there if nothing holds me back in Seria. I’ve just posted The Red Stripes of Canon EOS as a prelude to the event.

  6. Yes, the ‘red stripes’, I’m planning to get one or maybe two from KL. Where did you get the miniatures? Would love to own
the miniature of PRO canon dslr.

As for the E90, I found that the system are very slow (lag) even with a large capacity memory card and the battery doesn’t last long. I’m not a mobile-phone-aholic too, I don’t bring my E90 (bmobile line) as much as I bring my other Nokia (DST line).

p.s. I linked you at my blog, is it ok with you? (Sorry for the late permission)

  7. The miniatures were from Canon @ Vivo City, Singapore. It was on a trip last Dec with the kids that I had arranged with Singapore weekend photog Chon Chat who brought me there. Maybe I’m just bad with directions or that the design of Vivo City isn’t intuitive and I lost my way the second time I visited.

Since Dec 2007, there were a couple of times when the phone became really laggy and it cleared right up after a reboot. Symbian OS is still an operating system after all but to be consistently laggy as you have observed on the E90 would be quite frustating I guess.

Thanks for asking although unnecessary. You’re more than welcome to link, of course.
