WEEKEND HAPPENINGS. GO!NG WHERE?

Two nights ago, SHIMWORLD traffic surpassed 200,000 page views no sooner had I written about the interesting world of statistics and its representation. This weekend, the residents of the Belait district have a reason to be excited about numbers! The folks at DST are taking their recently launched GO! Broadband products and services on the road and they’re heading to the sleepy town of Kuala Belait and waking up people with serious numbers to eyeball about. On top of the promo, DST is launching a new Go! Student subscription plan. The roadshow is happening at the KB branch of DST on Sunday.

Due to prior work commitments, I won’t be seeing any of the Artists performances, hourly lucky draws or fun games that are lined up. If anything and in all likelihood I’m probably going to be performing the fine art of cursing (silently, of course) and enjoying the hourly treats from insect bites. I am referring to the gentlemanly game of golf where the elements surrounding the game brings out the ungentlemanly behaviour in me (or any photographer for that matter).

A man returns home to be greeted by his wife dressed in a sexy short nightie. “Tie me up,” she purrs. “Then you can do anything you want.” “Great,” he says. He binds her tightly to the bed then goes out to play golf.” — Laughter, the Best Medicine. RD ASIA Mar 2008

So yeah, this weekend I’m covering the 2008 LEXUS GOLF CLASSICS at the Empire Hotel & Country Club for the third year running. If you have nothing better to do and want to keep my company in between shoots, you’re welcome to join me at the Hole-in-One. (Note: this is not an official invitation from Lexus!) This is probably the only chance I’ll get to spend so much time with the Lexus flagship, the LS 460. With DST’s 3G and my Nokia E51, I’ll be reading my emails on the green in between flights and the bright sunlight won’t be a problem with the transreflective LCD technology.

By far the most enjoyable and satisfying golf I’ve shot to date is the 2005 HSBC Champions tournament in Sheshan, Shanghai where Tiger Woods and fellow world-class professional golfers competed. Thanks HSBC BRUNEI for the rare opportunity to walk among the pro golfers and also among the many pro photographers and journalists covering the event.

The cold weather was a welcomed change that made its fairly comfortable to sustain the entire day on the run. At the end of the event, the warm hospitality of the folks at HSBCgolf.com was much appreciated. As I had not previously written much about this event, I thought it might be rather appropriate timing to mention it. And, to be part of the inaugural US$5 million tournament, the largest in Asia and over double of what had previously been offered in any golf even in China, was a privilege!

Well done and thanks again.
