FANNING THE FLAMES OF WU CHUN

Wu Chun is hot–just ask any of his fans! But we all know that already. A week ago, in a surprising act of good faith, photo editor of FANS entertainment magazine in Chengdu, mainland China informed me via email that they had tried in vain to contact me but proceeded to use two of my photographs of Wu Chun for their feature article. My recent experience with showbiz is twofold. On the one hand, I’m delighted to see the momentum Wu Chun’s career has gained up in the short time that I became involved. On the other hand, all the attention in the media invariably produces side effects that raise some questions to the use of images that are copyright protected under local and international Intellectual Property laws, an area China has come under scrutiny for. Goes without saying that despite the conditions of use of the images are clearly stipulated on my site and on Baidu.com that are also echoed on numerous sites, people continue to breach this trust.

In a recent Fahrenheit visit in Guangzhou, Wu Chun devotees representing BAIDU held a large banner in welcoming their idol. I had the privilege of being asked by Wu Chun’s fans to help with the layout of the banner that you see here (at the bottom of the picture is www.janshim.com). This is what I’m talking about–showing respect for someone else’s property and still meeting the objective at the end of the day. I hope you all had a good time, BAIDU supporters!

This sounds silly but doesn’t “baidu” translate into “white poison”? Heheh!
Hilarious but good try. In my ignorance of Chinese writing I thought it meant “White Rabbit” and continued to think that until I was recently enlightened. BAI refers to HUNDRED and DU refers to TEMPERATURE so in their lingo (I could be wrong), I’m thinking it means A Hundred Degrees which indirectly makes an association to the band Fahrenheit. In your own slightly twisted translation, this is a kind of poison too.

Why don’t you not lock your online gallery so that people cannot just right click and save the photos and then repost them. I notice that ever since you posted the pictures from the grand opening online. It has been reposted in many blogs and forums including Chun’s own…lol!!
In terms of copyrights and intellectual property laws, China does not yet have the proper infrastructure because it is a fairly new area for them, but they are getting better. However, as a business person, it is very frustrating that Chinese manufacturing does not understand the economic side effects it has on the global market by making fake products such as Prada bags, iPods, Omega watches, etc.
And I don’t think Chun achieved his current stardom status in such short time just simply because of his looks. I think it is mainly due to him not being afraid to take on new challenges and try new things like he mentioned in his recent blog.

Hmm…in that context, I believe Baidu means “A Hundred Different Angles/Perspectives” In my understanding of that website/forum that holds information of the mass topics of the entertainment world and of celebrities, its title should be relating to the people’s say and opinions, with regards to their common objects/subjects of interest.
Thus, Janice’s understanding: Bai = Hundred (As deciphered by you. Ha!) and Du = Angles / Perspectives / Aspects
However, you are still very right with Temperature as it is one of “Du’s” meanings. Thus, giving rise to the heat of discussions in that forum? I deduce…..

As a former IT professional, the information age called the internet has given birth to a new social illness known as RCS (Right-Click-Save) Syndrome. Despite the high tech world we live in, sadly there is [still] no cure to this ever growing problem. Had China not block WordPress.com blogs, images re-appearing elsewhere would have (in all probability of convenience) been linked back to my gallery but this being not the case, they were re-hosted on galleries such as Photo Bucket, an act I decided in the interest of my health to just let it slide. As for Chun’s use of my images, he has my permission to do so since receiving the Photo DVD.
Your paragraph about international property laws highlights the rampant issues with piracy that exist everywhere. It’s unfortunate that the Chinese have become a stereotype for fake products. The Chinese in their obsession to pursue capital power has grossly mistaken CREDIBIILITY with CASH the latter of which gives immediate and tangible gains. And quite understandably so.
can i ask one thing?…about this hana kimi show of wu chun???is there a continuation of the story…uhmmm..really its so hanging…I’m a fan of him…well i see his performance to be great…i’m wishing to see a sequel of this show of him “HANA KIMI”…

Mr. Jan Shim, It is my first time to post a message or comment here…Im a big fan of many taiwanese stars just like Wu Chun and Jiro Wang and im also a big fan of F4 namely Jerry, Ken, Vanness and especially Vic and Barbie…..Since im in high school until i got in college and i think until i graduated and work and have my own family. I just want to know their addresses because i want to send them some gifts and let them know that im here to support them no matter what happens. Its been 6 years searching for their real address but unfortunately i didn’t got the right and real one.
