How time flies! It had been a year since ASEAN 100 Forum 2006 in Jakarta, Indonesia and this year, my client, Asia Inc forum, hosts this event once a year in a different country. So what is the ASEAN 100 Leadership Forum all about? Here’s a quote from the official web page …

The ASEAN 100 Leadership Forum is a highly interactive meeting of minds for one hundred of the most promising Southeast Asian next-generation leaders from business, government, civil society and the media.

It brings together the best and brightest Southeast Asian men and women who are expected to play key leadership roles in the next five to ten years.  They will engage in discussions, dialogue and debate on key issues and challenges facing the region and their implications to business and politics. – ASEAN 100 Forum

Photographing an event where Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Jakarta in 2006 and Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in the Hanoi event recently involved varying degree of compliance to security whose main responsibility is to protect their leaders and this includes getting photographers out of his face regardless of whether you’re the press or the official photographer!

It’s not very often you get to see behind-the-scenes photos of the days leading up to the main event and I thought it would be interesting to share them here. As photographer to Asian Inc Forum I get first-hand opportunity to photograph activities such as their interactive sessions with Hotel Melia’s Executive Chef Jurgen Kauz during food and wine testing. The final lunch menu can be seen here. Beyond the square table, a lot of hard work went on in the octagon office to ensure smooth running of the event.

Thanks, to Andrew and Malik who helped me drag three bags across 6 airports from beginning to the end of our journey (Brunei–Bangkok—Hanoi * Hanoi—Ho Chi Minh—Kuala Lumpur—Brunei) and also an extended thanks to my friend and associate Anthony Er for his help as second photog at this event.

Additional Information: Location photography
Photography assignments abroad can be fun, exciting but is often logistically challenging and a fair amount of risks and inconvenience are involved. The Lowepro Rolling Computrekker AW Plus bag is designed for the professional photographer and it takes a great number of bodies, lenses and accessories including a fairly large laptop. The problem is, when fully loaded the bag weighs 18 kgs and airline regulations limit carry-ons to 7 kgs max. Since no business critical items should ever be checked in, I had to accommodate the equipment into three separate bags.

Equipment information:
Canon EOS 5D & 20D, Speedlite 580EX/EX-II, EF 70-200mm f2.8 IS, EF 100-400mm IS, EF 17-40mm, EF-S 10-22mm, EF 24-70mm, CP-E3, Dell P4 2.6GHz 15.4″ notebook, 40GB USB 2.5″ Hard Drive and a whole bunch of items that take up weight and space.

  1. Hello Kim,

So you’re the aspiring photographer friend Crystal mentioned and forwarded this link to. I hope you’ll find time to visit my other posts—I’ve lost count of how many I’ve published since November 3, 2006 (anniversary coming up real soon) but you can find 50 articles listed on the Archives page.

I had no mentor but I discovered that over time, I developed a keen eye for the images you see in my galleries and as an enthusiatic writer, blogging gave me a platform to express myself in ways I never thought possible.

The support from my readers mean the world to me as it inspires me to always do my best.
