SCHOOL’S OUT. SANITY RESTORED.

School’s out, fun’s in. Two weeks of uniterrupted holidays. Well, almost two weeks. School kids today are stretched more than ever and it looks as though we’re in a great big rush to prepare kids as early as Primary 2 for something nobody has a clue about. Not contented with a five day school week, their afternoons are cramped with tuition but just when you think that’s borderline insanity, now they have classes on weekends too. Not only do kids no longer have childhood space, parents find themselves in an ever increasing stressful situation dealing with the demands on their kids. We seem to live in a society that is driven by economic needs more than academic or common sense.
As parents, there’s very little we can do but to make the best use of every available time and space. I brought my kids out to the beach where they let loose and run about in the big open spaces in the sun. Exposed to the elements of sand, wind and water in contrast with cement, wood and air conditioning in their confined classroom. As you can see from the photo gallery they enjoyed themselves immensely. We ended up going from beach to swimming pool and those who’s never been to Brunei get to see a little of the environment I live in. Life can be a beach!
Those who love the sun and swim, you’ll love the four pools at Brunei Shell Recreation Club (members only, however). The monument you see in the gallery is Brunei Shell’s Billionth Barrel Monument to commemorate, well, production of the billionth barrel. There’s also a glimpse of Seria town and a bazaar in the centre of town.
Here’s a panoramic image of BSRC’s pools.
