On Friday 4, 2007 the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), whose main role is to promote Brunei as an ‘investment destination’ held an informal public forum where seasoned ICT folks convene with serious aspiring technopreneurs at the Rizqun International Hotel in Brunei Darussalam. Appropriately entitled “THiNK BIG”, the forum encouraged all Brunei residents with an interest in starting an ICT business to meet other people in similar capacities over Teh Tarik networking sessions (coffee was served too). In my portfolio of corporate events that I’ve covered in the past 3 years, the strong show of support in attendance and Q&A was encouraging.

Moderated by Dato Paduka Timothy Ong (Acting Chairman of BEDB), the forum featured local guests Rano Iskandar (owner of leading commercial blog, RanoAdidas.com), Reeda Malik (AnakBrunei.org), Nurul Ain Jaafar (BEDB Senior Officer) and from Singapore , Stanley Han (GM/Co-Founder of Personal E-motion) and Brian Koh (KR Consulting).

As a former IT professional of 13 years with SCS and partner Sun Microsystems “THiNK BIG” forum was, for me, a walk down memory lane. Sitted on both sides of the venue were former colleagues from a number of seasoned players in our local IT industry as well as representatives from my former employer, SCS and, Sun Microsystems, the folks who will power the I-CENTRE’s computing infrastructure.
